ScreaM : "Si Titan me propose, j'accepterai"

A few days after the real shockwave which hit the CS scene, pressure is beginning to lower while remaining quite strong for the biggest scandal in the history of Counter Strike. Many more people are commenting each cases, colleagues from other redactions are doing their best to get any scrap of information. This goal in mind, we reached KioShima and KQLY. It’s now Adil "ScreaM" Benrlitom’s turn to speak up.
It’s important to know that a bit of this interview has been done for the DreamHack Winter and before the wave of VACbans. Some questions obviously were modified and/or deleted.
Hi Adil, before we talk about the DH or scandal, lets go back to the end of august and to your kick from Titan and your enrollment in Epsilon. Now that you’ve had time to think, can you explain how you felt back then? Hey, to be honest, I was kind of expecting it because of my inconsistency and the bad results we had weren’t helping either. Sooner or later it would have blown off! Unfortunately, learning it while you’re on holidays at the beach isn’t helping :D But I’m not mad at anybody, that kind of thing is always hard to say and hear, no matter the situation. I’m just a bit disappointed because my feelings and my skill were back at the end, but it was just too late! I’m glad to have enjoyed such a good time with them, it was a great experience. In the end, you aren’t in any of those two "main" French compositions, this must have been hard to take? Did you think of taking a break or even to stop the game? Totally, on the plane in my way home, I wasn’t even thinking about the game! But my pride took over and I absolutely couldn’t stop after a kick. So I came back with more motivation than before. You join Epsilon, with other players who are also eager for revenge. However, after a promising start, the project is not really working. What went wrong with the first line-up (Uzzziii, Sf, GMX and fxy0)? To be honest, I was very confident to play with this line-up. But there were always internal issues, and some behaviors which made it impossible to keep playing together. Since then we regularly saw changes within the team, one time it’s pm, another one MAJ3R, then SIXER, Sf isn’t there anymore, neither is fxy0, then they come back, etc. Why is it so complicated for you to have five stable players ? Why so many changes ? Like I said before, we were trying to find a solution. We tried many combinations of players but didn’t find yet what is working. There is always something unexpected that comes up. Like... We played starladder with sixer and majer, and felt really confident on this line-up. Yet, 2 days after getting back home, majer told us that he had to go live in Turkey, which we of course accepted. Then, it’s sixer who had problems and we ended up being 3, with Uzzziii and GMX. We still don’t have a permanent line-up, and I hope we will fix this after DreamHack because it’s really difficult to stay motivated in such a situation… Then comes the "VACation", first you learnt the VAC ban of KQLY. You never played with him officially but you probably got to spend some time with him, in or out of the game. Were you surprised ? I was streaming when suddenly the chat started to spam "KQLY vacation" or something like this. I thought "haha people are really dumb nowadays" but I went on hltv, vakarm, etc anyway and they were all talking about it. So I checked if it was really him on steam and discovered it was true. To be honest, I became a little crazy and I might have said some weird things haha! I don’t really know KQLY as a person. The very few things I knew were that he is very kind, calm, etc… a good guy. I never thought for a second that he was cheating when he entered Titan. I still heard many rumors about him, that he was cheating and everything… But when, where and how did he cheat? We’ll never know and that’s sad. Anyway, he cheated and got punished. Only a few hours later, Sf gets VAC banned. How did you hear about it, and what was your reaction? Did you talk with him since his ban? There comes the very difficult part! I was in shock all night for KQLY, I even stopped streaming earlier. We had a bootcamp planned in Stockholm the day after, and had to take the plane really early, at 7 or 8 am. We were laughing about KQLY being banned, which was the biggest buzz in the history of CS. GMX and fxy0 were already at the hotel in Paris to take the plane the next day. Then, at bedtime I talk to Sf wishing him a good night and that we will enjoy our time in DreamHack. And he answered something like "Ok, see you tomorrow if i’m not banned haha !" I laughed, but I really thought it was just a joke :] I then went to bed, set up my alarm clock and something like 5 minutes later, a friend of mine texted me about Sf getting VAC banned. At that moment, I just told him to shut up because I had to sleep. Then, I realized that he was dead serious and I’m like "no please inch allah it can’t be real!" And unfortunately for us, it was real… At that moment, I was laughing a bit because the thing I was laughing about 1 hour before happened to our team. I just couldn’t believe it. How do you feel about this situation? And about Valve not letting you go to DreamHack with a stand-in? After Sf got banned, I have never felt so unlucky. The major events are really against me. I never go through groupstage, and this time I can’t even play it! To be honest, I thought we could compete with a last as it happened one week before the event. But Valve decided otherwise, and we can’t blame them… Sf came to apologise, I forgave him (eventhough it’s hard to believe), and I trust him when he tells me he only cheated once during a matchmaking. My thoughts go to my teammates and to Titan, because what happened to us is really horrible. What does the future looks like for you? Epsilon with a new project? Waiting for Titan to call you back? We spoke about it with my mates from Epsilon and we know that if Titan needs a new player they will probably pick someone within our team; whether it is Uzzziii, GMX, fxy0 or myself? We have no idea what they will decide and we know they will take their time to think this through. I think they haven’t thought about it now, as they have ESEA finals in 2 weeks. After this, they will either keep playing with Iorek or look for a new player. One thing is sure, whoever they ask to join Titan, he will accept without any hesitation. If Titan asks me to join in, I will accept. It is useless to train with Epsilon, knowing that it is very likely that one of our players will leave within one month! If Titan doesn’t ask me to join them, I will continue playing with Epsilon, always as motivated! To end, a more personal question. With Titan you became a professional player with everything that comes with it: salary, bonus, competitions, training room, gaming house, lots of travels, a real professional environnement, etc. Today, what is your daily routine ? It clearly changed. Nevertheless I used to play a lot and, by coming back to live at my house, I felt that the gaming house was a little too much… But it was still a nice experience. I have to admit that I never followed the competitions as much as I do now and that’s what I miss the most. I find the level pretty low and even some teams that have no practice can manage to win against a top 5 team. Regarding the salary, of course I get less than before. But I have more time to stream and people are really nice, I get a lot of support, shoutout to my viewers! But in general, it didn’t change much, I feel a little better and I have more time for myself, which is to me the most important. I hope that we’ll handle the problems and start to really practice again, I’d like to show people that we could do way better than what we are now! Thanks to you, if you wish to add anything or thank someone, don’t hesitate, final words are up to you. Thanks for the interview and to everyone supporting us, that’s what help us stay motivated sometimes! :) |
